Liêm finishes second at Super GM chess tournament

HÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese chess player Lê Quang Liêm finished second at the ninth Danzhou Super Grandmaster Tournament which concluded in Hainan Province, China yesterday.

In the last match, Liêm, who has an Elo rating of  二 七 二 八, beat Vidit Santosh Gujrathi of India (Elo  二 七 一 八) after  七 五 moves.

At the World Cup  二0 一 七, Gujrathi defeated Liêm in the second round.

After seven matches, HCM City-born Liêm gained four points to defend his second position. Yu Yangyi of China took the title with  四. 五 points. Wei Yi of China and Vladimir Fedoseev of Russia shared third place with  三. 五 points each.

With this result, Liêm will adds five points to his Elo rating and climbs to No  二 三 in the world.
