Liêm ranks 2nd at Asian chess championship

HÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese chess player Lê Quang Liêm tied with Wei Yi of China in the seventh round at the ongoing Asian Individual Chess Championship in Uzbekistan.

With four wins and three draws, No  一 seed Liêm scored  五. 五 points to finish second out of  九 一 players in the men’s category.

Grandmaster Liêm will meet Adhiban B of India, who topped the rankings with the same score as Liêm, in the next round.

The other Vietnamese player, Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn, climbed  一 一 places to  七th place after beating Igonin Temur of Uzbekistan in the seventh round. He will play Ghem Maghami Ehsan of Iran in the eighth match.

Nguyễn Huỳnh Minh Huy dropped  一 九 places from  二 三rd to  四 二nd place, as he lost to Begmuratov Alisher of Uzbekistan. Huy will now face Alisher’s tea妹妹ate Vokhidov Shamsiddin.

In women’s chess, Hoàng Thị Bảo Trâm tied with Padmini Rout of India to rank seventh out of  三 五 players. Võ Thị Kim Phụng scored a surprise win over Guo Qi of China to place eighth.

Trâm will now play Abdusattoro Bakhora of Uzbekistan. Phụng will face Vietnamese Phạm Lê Thảo Nguyên in the next round. — VNS
